    Smart infrastructure investment and city engagement

    A webinar with The Climate Group, Northeast Group, NYPA, and Signify


    In June 2020, experts from The Climate Group, Northeast Group, New York Power Authority (NYPA), and Signify held a webinar on the current state of smart city infrastructure initiatives around the world—goals, progress to date, and challenges still to be faced.     Each participant gave a brief presentation, which was followed by a live Q&A with the audience.
     

    • The Climate Group, an international NGO whose mission is to accelerate climate action, gave an overview of the opportunity afforded by converting lighting, which accounts for around 6% of global CO2 emissions, to LED. LED Program Manager Toby Morgan spoke about how connected lighting systems can maximize energy efficiency in cities, helping to achieve aggressive net zero emissions and climate mitigation goals.
    • Smart infrastructure market intelligence firm Northeast Group shared the results of their third US Smart Street Lighting & Smart Cities study, based on research of all 314 US cities with populations of 100,000 or more. President Ben Gardner and Research Director Chris Testa detailed the progress made in LED and smart street lighting, as well as the barriers to adoption that must still be overcome.
    • Through its Smart Street Lighting NY program, NYPA is on a mission to replace 500,000 street lights in New York State with LED by 2025. Program Manager Kevin Luteran described how NYPA collaborates with muncipalities across the state for design, construction, financing, services, and smart city intiatives.
    • Signify, the world leader in lighting, offers Interact IoT lighting systems and software to make the world smarter and more livable with solutions that go beyond illumination. Martin Stephenson, Head of Systems and Services and Digital Solutions Americas for Signify, gave an overview of Interact City and what it can do for city beautification, efficiency, safety, and quality of life.
